授業のねらい
The aim of this course is to increase basic conversational skills including listening and speaking to build confidence and increase motivation to excel and enjoy communicating in English. Especially, spending time speaking and interacting with other people in English obtaining necessary skills for communication. 上達したいというモチベーションを高めながら 英語に自信をつけ、コミュニケーションを楽しめるようにリスニングとスピーキングの基礎的な会話スキルアップを目指します。英語で人と接し話す時間を過ごす事により、学生が英語のコミュニケーションに必要なスキルを習得する事をねらいとしています. 
履修者が到達すべき目標
Every student, in every class, will have the chance to engage in active communication exercises and activities. 学生には全ての講義において有益なコミュニケーションを実践するチャンスがあります。
A) Students will build confidence by communicating in: 下記のコミュニケーション環境により自信を養います。
1. One-to-one situations マンツーマン
2. Small groups 小グループの中で
3. Big groups 大きなグループの人数に対して
B) With foreign instructors, students will learn and brush up on natural pronunciation and intonation of conversational English, learn about foreign cultures, ways of thinking and how and why they differ from Japan. 外国の教師を手本にしながら、奇麗な発音と良いイントネーションを学習し、異文化の人々の考え方や日本文化との違い等を見て行きます。

This course relates to items (2), (4), (5), and (6) of the Department of English Language and Literature's diploma policy. 
授業の進め方
学修上の助言
The course units will cover from one to two lessons. The themes are based on everyday conversational topics for university students in Hokkaido. There will also be time spent on preparing for communication tests.
The course has a ‘blended learning’ approach (combined online and classroom tasks):
1. Classroom Activities (exercises interacting with other students and the teacher)
2. Online Weekly Quizzes (by internet, available 24 hours/day)
3. Communication Tests (interactive assessments)
4. Achievement Test (based on quizzes done throughout the course)
** Classroom activities may be adapted for online completion depending on circumstances.
