授業のねらい
This class will have a particular focus on developing abilities and confidence in speaking and listening.

Each class there will be opportunities to:
1) build skills in a range of conversation styles: presenting, storytelling, persuasion, etc.
2) improve knowledge of the nuances of English in order to facilitate greater understanding of the language.

Some specific goals of this class:
1. To increase experiences of using English among a variety of topics, both familiar and unfamiliar.
2. To participate in a variety of conversational situations, including one-on-one, group, and presentations.
3. To improve confidence in speaking English.
4. To build ambiguity tolerance for cultural or conversational misunderstandings
5. To improve cultural and situational awareness in English communication.

【授業の進め方】
This class will discuss real-life situations through a variety of activities, including speaking in pairs and small groups, learning and reviewing vocabulary and grammar, and watching short videos.

You will need to prepare personal notes and your folder of classroom materials and review the previous lessons' topic, grammar point, and vocabulary. You must bring your textbook to every class.

Students should come to class prepared to communicate in English with the teacher and classmates.
Communication with the teacher and classmates is essential.

This class will involve discussions, pair-work, group-work, and presentations.

This class will use computers or mobile devices (スマホ、タブレット) to complete 1/3 of our coursework - accessing online resources such as videos and to research information for presentations. Additionally, students will write presentations on computers or mobile devices.

I have lived in Japan for over ten years. I have taught at universities in Hokkaido. I taught English in Japan junior high schools for six years. I studied TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) at University of Birmingham for my Master’s studies.
