授業のねらい
The aim of this course is to allow students to understand and speak about current issues in English. It is hoped that the students will become comfortable with some news sources and will become familiar with the vocabulary and language relevant to serious issues in the English-speaking world today, for use in cross cultural communication situations.
In addition, developing confidence to approach English resources on brand new current topics is a meta-aim of the course.
履修者が到達すべき目標
The goal of this class is to look at various topics of current interest and study the language associated with each. The Discussion class in the first semester is an excellent warm up for this Current English class. However, new students are welcome to join. Discussions will be an important part of almost every lesson, dealing with the main topic or related topics mentioned above.

By the end of the course, each student should be able to speak fluently for up to three minutes on any one of the topics chosen in this course, in a conversation or discussion type situation. Although giving opinions and formal discussion strategies will be practiced, the most important goal is to find your own voice in English and practice expressing your own individual personality.
授業の進め方
学修上の助言
The approach will be communicative with students doing a lot of pair work, and group work. Students will use discussion skills to exchange views and ideas about current issues in pair or group discussions. After discussion, written work may (sometimes) be assigned. This class may require internet based research for news information or other material.

NOTES:
1. Coming to class on time is very important for this class. Your classmates' enjoyment and success require your presence for the full class.
2. Topics used in this class may be changed or adjusted based on student interests and developments in current issues in the world.
3. This course will be a hybrid format (partly on Moodle/on-demand, and partly face to face).
Class one will be on Moodle, in on-demand format.
Information about face to face lessons will be shared on the class Moodle page after week one.
Always check the class Moodle page for information.
